Applying Synchronous Condenser for Damping Provision in Converter-dominated Power System

The dynamic characteristics of converter-dominated systems are governed by controlling power converters and the interactions between converter conventional alternators. Frequency oscillations can appear under operation conditions caused phase-locked loop dynamics among control systems. may be poorly damped, which result in reduced generation, longer settling time, or disconnections sensitive components. It is foreseeable that damping services will critical for grid stabilization future with high penetration renewable generation. In this work, synchronous condensers (SCs) evaluated applied to provide post-event conditions. An innovative supplementary controller automatic voltage regulator SCs proposed improve frequency a system after disturbances. Using local remote measurements, able modulate reactive output hence, terminal bus voltage, further impacts flow system; therefore, provided oscillations. implemented on an industrial-level hardware platform, performance verified hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
